For on their mountainside above Hazelton-on-Hudson they are living in what was once the Kaatskill Mountains, now the Catskills; in an earlier incarnation, as the Dutch village of Vedders, Hazelton-on-Hudson was likely the setting for the story of Rip Van Winkleâs near-fatal enchantment more than two hundred fifty years before.
